Build a rubber band car
This is an easy to build car powered by nothing more than a rubber band. It does this by storing energy in the rubber band that it converts into motion
Equipment
Craft popsicle sticks
Shorter miniature craft sticks
Rubber band
Heavy screws or bolts
4 large plastic bottle caps
Wooden skewers
Straws
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Method
Place 2 craft sticks side by side and glue a miniature craft stick about 2.5cm from each end
Cut two sections of straw about 1.5cm long and glue horizontally to one end of the long craft sticks (one section on the end of each stick)
Cut another straw piece about 7cm long and glue to the other end of the long craft sticks
Use the pointy end of a skewer to poke a hole in the center of each of the bottle caps
Cut two 9cm skewers and place through the straws
Glue the caps on the ends of the skewers
Cut a 2cm and 1cm skewer. Glue the longer piece to the front (the end with the long straw) of the car and the short piece to the back. They should attach to the skewers and to the miniature craft sticks
Glue one heavy bolt to the end of each craft stick at the back of the car
Wrap the rubber band around the skewer at the back of the car and glue it in place
Pull the rubber band so the other end loops around the skewer piece at the front of the car
To move the car, pull it backwards so the rubber band wraps around the skewer at the back of the car, then release
